BMW MINI 5 SPEED GETRAG
BMW MINI 5 SPEED GETRAG
The 5 & 6 speed BMW Mini Getrag Gearbox (2004 onwards) commonly suffer with pinion wear on the mainshaft , the bolts that secure the diff carrier on to the crown wheel can work loose creating an audible knock at first, left too long it will prove fatal in terms of the damage it causes. You may also hear a high pitch whine / drone in 1st gear & some times 2nd gear due to the design of gearbox, ( this can be normal ) due to the reverse idler being permanently engaged with the laygear / first motion shaft , although in some cases the bush within the reverse idler can wear out allowing the idler to wobble on the shaft with enhanced noise.
