The 5 speed manual Nissan Almera gearbox common on the 1500 cc petrol engine range has its own unique failures , commonly the tapered bearings on the main shaft wear out the front bearing wears.  The hubs, both the 1/2hub & 3/4 or  5th gear hubs, which in part are responsible for allowing you to select a different gear or go back to a neutral,  have a tendency to develop a hairline fracture resulting in loss of gear selection on the affected range.
